4th Belgian Symposium on Tissue Engineering 2016

Dear colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to announce the 4th Belgian Symposium on Tissue Engineering 2016 (BSTE2016), themed ‘Shaping a Quantitative Framework for Tissue Regeneration’, to which you are cordially invited. This two-day national symposium is organized by Prometheus and will be held on the 14th and 15th of April 2016, at the “Thermotechnisch Instituut”, located at the Arenberg Castle Park of the KU Leuven, Belgium.

The BSTE2016 aims at bringing scientists worldwide together to discuss frontline research in the rapidly expanding field of Tissue Engineering (TE) and Regenerative Medicine. This will be streamlined by seven plenary lectures by world renowned scientists presenting their latest findings, technological tools and opinions on a strategic plane for the development and manufacturing of TE products for effective tissue repair. Additionally, this event is held to encourage initial contact and act as meeting platform to promote scientific networking and potential research collaboration both at national and international levels.

More information on the abstract submission (deadline February 15th 2016), registration, program and location can be found on the website.

We look forward to welcoming you all at the BSTE2016.

Best regards,

Frank Luyten on behalf of the organizing committee

HeMiBio conference in Leuven, december 2015

In January 2011 the European Commission and Cosmetics Europe have jointly launched a European research initiative aiming at a common strategy towards the replacement of current repeated dose systemic toxicity testing in human safety assessment. The aim of HeMiBio (www.hemibio.eu) as part of this initiative was to generate a liver-simulating device (Hepatic Microfluidic Bioreactor) mimicking the structure and function of the human liver.

In December 2015, the international symposium in Leuven will highlight the results obtained within the HeMiBio consortium, including the development of functional liver cells, stem cell reporter lines, bioreactor designs, sensors capable of evaluating hepatocyte function and the creation of  an in vitro model hepatocyte-stellate cell co-culture preclinical model for assessment of liver fibrosis. Moreover, a share of international experts on hepatocytes, bioreactors and liver-on-a-chip will provide state-of-the-art lecture.

For more information regarding the symposium (and to register) please go to www.hemibio.eu.
